| Cable / Malcolm's
Lost
split 7"

|
This one turned out to be a mixed bag,
and one of the prime examples of why I did so many split 7"s.
This was Cable's, from Conneticut, first release. They were a real
up and coming band at the time and I was thrilled to be able to
land them for this release. Their noisy hardcore was stellar, and
later they landed deals with Doghouse Records, and in turn, Hydrahead
Records. Malcolm's Lost is another story. I had heard their 7"
on Shadow Records and I LOVED IT. It was, and still is, one of my
favorite early 90s hardcore releases. Best described as Brooklyn
meets Iceburn. For some reason though, the vocals for my release
were high pitched and not so good. Check out that Shadow Records
(they also released the first Next Step Up album) 7", it's
a good one.
When working with young bands that do not have much of a recording
history you never really know what you are going to get. By putting
out split 7"s with two bands you hedge your bets a little.
The odds are if the bands are pretty good (you have to trust your
taste) then at least one of the two recordings is going to be good.
Pressing Info: This one I am not sure of, there
are either 1000 or 1500, all on black vinyl. I think just 1000,
but I lost the records for this one. Two different printing jobs
on the covers, the 2nd one being better.
